Life as we know it

Last night I treated my self to a T-Bone steak, it is a rare event, mostly we eat chicken.  I charcoal grilled it on my 6 dollar Walmart grill and it was a wonderful meal.  I then came upstairs to watch what was going on with the Porkulus package just in time to see the traitor Susan Collins take the floor to justify why she is acting like a Democrat and how great this piece of crap legislation is.  I had all I could do to keep my dinner down what a disgraceful representative we have here from Maine.  I am so tired of hearing we need to do something, the government hasn't gotten much right,  never mind a package as big as this one,  with all its waste, inflation causing and deficit spending.  Doing nothing would be better.  A little known event in American history is the depression of 1920.  Harding was President and didn't have a clue what to do so he did nothing, by 1921 the depression was over and it ushered in almost 9 years of properity known as the roaring 20's.  Compare that to what Hoover and FDR tried from 1929 to 1941, there is nothing wrong with doing nothing, it was mostly not 100% but mostly government that got us here, we don't need more government meddling.  So the vote was as expected 61 yes and 36 nos, right down party lines except for 3 Rinios Collins, Snowe and Spector.  Spector has the most to loose he is up for reelection in 2010, Collins 2014 and Snowe 2012, might explain why they are keeping a low profile.  Arlen Spector nearly lost the primary to a true conservative by about 1% point, next time he is toast.  They are pushing for a final vote at 12 noon today, the faster the better they know the American people don't want this and it is being crammed down our throat.  Collins talked about a 780 Billion dollar package and under here breath,  it will be a little larger, I have no clue where the other money is being spent but it is now 838 Billion, I am sure it will be a Trillion before we know it and then add the interest.

I have gone on and on about the few simple and with very little cost things that could be done.  Not much in this bill helps small business,  even though they give it lip service or to the American tax payer again a lot of words but most of that is for illegal aliens and people who generally don't pay taxes anyway, how does it help us that pay taxes, in no way,  is the correct answer.  So there will be many more rounds of this stimulus kind of thing coming, putting us further in debt to the Chinese and when they can't borrow any more they will just print it.  Hopefully we can stop the madness here but I certainly doubt it, the Congress didn't get its entire wish list and they will be back in the name of stimulus for more.

I am old and my only vested interest in this is my grandchildren, people that didn't have any kind of say, not that we did either, they will be paying for this and the coming packages that will entirely ruin our free market economy.  China has the message, why do you think they have the money to lend us, in only a few years the Democrats have done what the Russians couldn't do, made our country very close to a communist country, complete with government running all the business and of course making a complete mess of it.  It doesn't work, as recently as the 1990's it was tried in Japan, only leaving them with massive debt and still the problems exist and the debt needs to be paid down.

We know and they in congress know what works, it is all just a big ponzi scheme to take money from a few by promising them rewards that will never come.  Hold on to your wallet or get into a black market business so you can keep your money, otherwise Obama and company will spend your money faster than a drunken sailor.

Star parker

Star has a great article on townhall.com today, check it out Star's Article .

Apparently getting 3 Rino's in the Senate to go along still has Obama scared that he is about to loose his first big fight.  Even Collins is saying if the House adds back any programs she will not support it.  Democratic Senators must be feeling the heat, most people think this is a very bad idea and they are quite right.  Under that backdrop, Obama will try to sell or cramp this bill tonight.  It would be terrific if after he spoke there was even less support.  I don't think much is going to happen today but I will keep my eye on it.

Comments on comments

This post started out as just a comment to a couple of comments on my last post, which would not have been seen by even the people that originated the comments.  But then it exceeded 2000 characters, oddly enough that is how the blog got started, comments to articles are only 1000 characters, I never get under 1000 characters so they suggest putting it a blog, so that is what I did.  But posting 2 or 3 1000 character comments also works.

Don't forget, to call the capital and email your Senator tomorrow, if you can get to talk to an aid it is better than just the person answering the phone.

To Charlie and Donnie.  Donnie, send me you email address and I will put you on the notification list.

Obama got a lot more than just the Black vote, but you are right many black people voted for him just because he was black, which is really stupid, if the same ratio of white people voted for McCain, it would have been a landslide for McCain.. People were convinced by the media that GW was the devil, the devil that kept our country safe. As many of you know that even with a few warts, I like George Bush, he knew what what was right and stuck to it, not to say I agreed with every decision but when would that ever happen.   What change did they get, none.  Same old same old.  Mostly Clintonites in the administration, and ones that don't even pay taxes to boot and a left wing socialist President.   It is great that the country can elect a black man to office, I support that aspect.  I just wish it was a man that I could support ideologically.  The media simply didn't do its job and lost all objectivity,  there were many signs of what is to be and they ignored it.  Yes, we that seek out information know all of this, but most people are either to lazy or to busy to do any of their own research and have the attention span of an ant, if it can't be presented in 20 seconds it is gone.  Charlie there is nothing unacceptable about your comment and somewhat true.  But unfortunately the black community is mostly one of dependency, caused by both their leaders and the Democratic party.  I doubt if Martin Luther King Jr. would have supported affirmative action or the repression of the people that he tried to help and call welfare help when it is just enslavement.  I am getting the sense that most black people would just have we white folk dead.  There are many great black men and woman, but it is so hard, if they try to achieve they are labeled as one that is acting white.  What is white about being a good citizen and a successful employee or business owner.  I love to see black achievers and I can name a lot of them and of course they can add the stigma of being a republican to the list of things that contribute to the black community not liking them.  I am not sure why they don't see that the republican party in general has been much better to them.  They have gone into a different kind of slavery to the Democratic party,

Donnie you are right about government but what is obvious to you is going to take the average person a lot longer to learn.  Hopefully we will see some change in the 2010 midterms like we did in 1994, we need a leader like Newt to light the way.

This is the short answer, could be a book.

As Yogi once said

It ain't over till its over.  He wasn't a master of the English language but he was quite right.  It may be Tuesday when they take the actual final vote, so keep up the pressure, email, call, sign any petition such such as nostimulus.com.  They may have Collins, Snowe and Specter but there must be some shaky Democrats that see their political life coming to and end if they support this.  Although I have to say I didn't see any, but I suppose they are not going to broadcast it.

They haven't taken another poll since about mid week and the package only had a 37% according to some polls and even less by others.  I suspect these are the Obama water on water crowd.  Obama didn't have much to do with the writing of the bill mostly Pelosi and company.  In fact the man has never written a bill in his political life, co sponsor of a writen bill is as close as he gets.  I guess there isn't much call for bill writting when your a community organizer.  Sorry, I can't help myself, my paperboy has more business experience than Obama and now he is going to tell companies how to run their business.  He is so far over his head.  Unfortunately what we saw before the election is true and even worse, this guy is nothing more than a left wing radical and now the President of the United States, I guess what makes this country great is also going to kill us.  Every time I hear him speak without a script it is obvious he isn't as smart or as articulate as the Obamaites would hope.  Yes, George Bush was no Ronald Regan and wasn't a great communicator, but one on one he was good, he is way smarter than the left thinks.  Personally, I wouldn't take the job for a Trillion dollars a year, a thankless job at its best.  And I guess that is the feeling of some of the really good Republican Senators I saw give passionate speaches trying to save our country from the virus that has infested our government.

I still think that 6 years is way to much for a Senator.  My plan would be 4 years and only two terms, fresh blood all the time.  As I watched the Senate debate, it was hard not to notice that there were Senators that couldn't pay attention and couldn't keep vertical, they should have left the Senate years ago.  Case in point, you know how much I dislike Susan Collins, she is now entrenched until at least 2014, geeze I wish my state had some decent repesentation.

Just an aside, Michael Steel gave the Republican response to the Presidents weekly radio address.  I think they put the right guy in, I like him.

This isn't much of a post, but keep up the good work, keep the pressure on, it might not work but then again it just might.

A bad bill is a bad bill

Now if they had trashed 800 billion and kept 100 Billion that would have been a better deal for us.

Susan Collins is the worst Senator, if she wants to be a Democrat she should just change her party affiliation.  While Debate was going on on the floor Collins was back door dealing.  She isn't a leader such as a minority Whip or minority leader, she really can not speak for republicans, especially when she isn't really one her self.  800 Billion or 900 Billion, it is still a horrible waste of money and opportunity.  With the backing of Senator Snow and Senator Spector, the Dems have what they want, a few Republican votes.  Mean while on the Senate floor McCain, Coburn and Graham were fighting the good fight, trying as hard as they could to get some of this spending out of the bill.  McCain said something very interesting and very true.  Just because they are able to pick off 2 or 3 or 4 republicans doesn't make it a bipartisan bill, it only means out of almost 600 they got a very few votes.  This was a political statement to of course the public, the Obama administration and most of all to his Republican collegues both in the House and the Senate.  We have gone over why bipartisanship is so important to both sides.  Even with those few votes the Dems will be hitting hard during the next campaign that it was bipartisan, of course this package will do little to stimulate the economy and will fail and they have to spread the blame.  Thanks Senator Collins for giving them the amunition, although it be very little, because make no mistake this bill was going to pass with or without republican support.  As far as I can tell the final vote will be on Tuesday and Wednesday you will see the Stock market drop like a rock.

This whole package and debate is so stupid.  It would be so easy to stimulate new jobs with hardly any money spent.  Two simple things and maybe even one.  Cut the maximum business tax from 35% (the second largest in the world) to 25%(more in line with other countries).  This will create millions and millions of jobs, you will see the stock market start to rebound immediately, I guess this is too simple and doesn't fit the paradym.  If you really want to spend some money, but sorry Dems very little.  Use 50 Billion or so for low interest loans for small busnesses, those under 500 employees.  This would allow businesses to invest in capital equipment and other good uses.   Most of this money would be repaid within 5 years.  You could also add a very small but permanent tax cut for the American family.  Why did the stimulus package not work last year, people knew it was a one shot thing.  But put $25 or $50 back into their pocket  every week and see how consumer spending comes back.  Again, just to easy and it doesn't spend enough money for congress, they have to feel like they have done something by spending the maximum amount of money.

This whole thing is depressing.

Whew, I am tired

I have a little bit of a stiff neck from watching this on my computer, I don't have cable but you can see all of this on cspan.org.  Just a lot more of the same, Republicans either trying to add their favorite project or Democrats but the majority of the Republicans are trying to trim the bill, trimmed by 60 or 70% would be good, but it keeps growing, estimated to be 940 Billion at the end of the debate.

I called both my Senators at the capital to express my dismay, especially at Senator Collins.  She is in an off the floor meeting with 14 other supposed bipartisan group to trim 107 Billion from the package, that is just unacceptable.  This bill went to the senate at 819 Billion and trimming 107 Billion from it still looses ground from the 940 Billion dollar figure.  I wish a good conservative republican could replace my Rino Senator.  Thanks Susan for a 900 Billion Porkulus package, good job.  The funny part is, I doubt that the Democrats will even concede 100 Billion, they want it all and more.  I am so tired of hearing how this or that part of the bill will create jobs, maybe for a few construction workers.  I am convinced that these people have lost touch with reality, the Republicans don't really get it either.  We have to go back to spending within our means, a balanced budget and make the tough decisions on what the money should be spent on, that is the it is done.  I am still shocked that China has their spending under control, they are buying up our debt because they have so much money, what is wrong with this picture.

I am 63, the America I grew up in doesn't exist.  Schools teach left wing policies, no pledge allegenace to the flag,  no prayer.  They are taugh that America is evil and we are hated through out the world.  I am not so sure we are hated everywhere in the world but there are a few places that don't seem to like us very much and want all of us dead.  I am not sure we will ever recover from the last few years of pushing more to the left and now this Obama is the king of left.  Harry Reid was pretty cocky today saying he had 60 votes and it would be passed tonight.  Well I guess that isn't going to happen, they will be back at 6:30 to vote on yet another endless set of amendments.  Of course the quicker they can shove this through the more chance it will pass.  I encourage you to call the Senate switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for your Senator and leave a message for them that you want them to vote no on this package.

I am going to pass on the evening session and get something to eat.  I am sure this will go through the weekend.

Heaven help us

Generalizations

It is a little before 7:00 Am, I got up with all kinds of thing rattling around in my head and braved the cold and logged on.

Of course it is to early for anything to happen.  Harry Reid was pushing to get the vote on the S-1 by weeks end, well this is the weeks end.  Just a cram job, there is no way this bill is ready to be voted on.  But if yesterdays vote is any indication, despite the low 37% approval, it just might pass.  It may be time to buy that place in Costa Rica.  Hannity calls this bill "The end of capitalism as we know it, European socialism package", I buy that.  I just hope when this all fails and we get better representation and that it isn't too late to save the country.

I woke up thinking of all the wasted spending in this bill and focused on a couple of aspects that are really terrible.  These are the parts that encourage people not to work and collect from the Nany State.  That is the 20 billion dollar increase in food stamps.  This was a very well intentioned program when it started but it is out of control.  There are no food stamps, it is plastic, so not to embarrass the users.  In central Maine this money is used in a few different ways.  There are the few that actually buy nutrious food for their family, these are primarily older people but not exclusively.  Those that buy the most expensive steaks and lobsters and for dessert chips dip and cakes, these people are generally obess and is there any wonder.  So when there obessity related illness occurs, we will pay for their care.    This makes me mad, we are very careful and if I get a lobster it is rare and only when the price is real low.  We primarily eat Chicken, Chicken, Chicken and more Chicken.  Whenever breast are on sale for something like $.89 a pound, we buy 20 pounds or so and freeze them, I debone and deskin them to make boneless skinless chicken breast for $.89 a pound, a little work but a big savings.  I then take the bones throw them in a pot with water and make a broth and it is amazing how much chicken is left for soup or chicken salad or whatever.  Eating vegtables is really expensive especially in the winter but we do the best we can to get the best value and maintain good health.  So it is possible to eat well with the $600 a month that most of these people get on food stamps.  The last category is,  the ones that just take the cash, I was appalled to learn that you can do this.  I assume these people are either to lazy to cook and go to a fast food joint or they just take the money and buy drugs.  I don't mean to sound judgemental but it is a good bet that I am right.  Personally, I don't care if they kill themselves on drugs, I just don't want to pay for it or health care bills they will incur by bad decisions.   I have previously mentioned the 100 Billion cash for people that never paid a tax in their life, this is suppose to be part of the tax reduction portion of the bill.  I can't find any tax relief that is not attached to some industry that supported Obama, there is nothing for the small business person or the working slob.  The list of the spending in the bill is endless and getting bigger, it went into the Senate as 819 Billion and now standing at nearly 920 Billion, what is wrong with this picture.

I am wrong according to the document that describes the differenced in S-1 and HR-1, the Senate version is 940 Billion
Take a look here

I am hoping that there were over night polls indicating even after the push by Obama and people like Americans United for Change, that support is waining.  The only thing I can say is buy gold.  If this bill passes as it is right now, the Dow will fall as many as a 1000 points, if not the bottom falling out, the people that buy stocks are not stupid, they know what is going on.  Other than talk radio the biggest opponent to this bill has been the Wall Street Journal, the most intelligently written news paper in the country.

If your too lazy to email or call your Senator and Congressman, at least sign the petition at sign up here

Well, we will just have to hold our breath and our nose and see what happens, try not to pass out.  I have never seen a President so bold and thinks us so stupid.

Ever viligent

I am leaning just as a Marine if we don't keep a clear eye on what is going on it will all dissolve.

I had a busy day and couldn't watch the hearing today, but right now they are voting on an amendment to take out I think 60 items as earmarks from the bill, bill submitted by Fiengold D-WI and McCain R-AZ.  I don't know how much money this represents, but I am betting it isn't enough, more when I know more.  All it says it will eliminated 50 to 100 Billion from the package, that is a pretty big spread, I sure wish I had seen the debate on the amendment, it looks like it is going to fail, which is oh so bad.  My Senators were split Collins voting Yes and Snowe voting no, opps I had that wrong the other way around Snowe voting yes and Collins no, which makes sense Collins just got another 6 years and Snow is facing and election.  Which may make sense Collins was just reelected and Snowe has to earn her seat again.  The amendment failed 65 - 32.  So each of the additions to make the cost raise passed and one to take out some of the pork failed, I am not as enthusiastic as I was.

But two other things are on my mind.  The Add for yes to this bill has been added to and now a somewhat elaborate production, showing a broken America and how a miracle performed by the anoyted has people with fresh factories and machines pushing sheets of metal products and burly men with hand held grinders throwing sparks.  Apparently this is not the only place this is running.  The add produced by Americans United for Change, interesting enough formed to block George Bush whenever possible.  To view a copy of this add if you haven't seen it is here it is if you choose to see it
I would like others to comment, I don't think I have ever seen adds for congressional bills before, can anyone comment on that.

I was wrong a couple of days ago or more accurately my newspaper was wrong, the pushing back of the Digital TV has passed both houses of Congress.  That is good news for me at least.  I had to agree with the Democrats on this one.

the latest

In a complex world it is strange that people want one sentence answers to complex problems.  This of course fits well with politicians that don't want you to know what they are really doing.  Case in point.  I was hunting for actual tax cuts in the Porkulus bill and found very little. But the Washington Post  had it broken down somewhat and the almost 40% that Obama was selling is truly only 22% and I am not sure I like the 22%, like selective tax cuts for such industries as the Film industry that helped Obama get elected.  100 Billion are not tax cuts at all but payments to people that don't even pay taxes, in other words, welfare.  Think of what 100 Billion of start up money for small businesses could do, after all small business is where most of the jobs are created, big business are laying people off, literally all new jobs created last year came from small business under 500 employees.  I am not even saying give them 100 Billion, low interest loans would be acceptable to them and to me.

They started late today and at 2:30 broke and will be voting on the endless amendments that have been submitted.  At the moment it is sitting at 902 Billion and if they have two more days of this God knows where it will land up.  I don't know where they get time for it but they passed the SCHIP expansion bill.  Now awaiting Obamas signature, which of course will be a slam dunk.  I assume they could get quite a few of these type bills passed as anyone that cares and is watching is focused on the Stimulus package.

The SCHIP expansion would cost some $32.8 billion over five years, according to the the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. The bill is financed by an increase in tobacco taxes, including a 61-cent-per-pack increase in cigarette taxes that would raise the federal excise tax on a pack of cigarettes to $1.  The slow moves toward Nationalized health care, which most certainly helped bankrupt England.  I am not a smoker but the poor smoker is not only killing himself and certainly will cost him large sums off money for his own health care caused by stupidity, but he is expected to pay for the health care of people that can't stop making babies that they can't afford.  I don't know who paid for the original plan, I expect we did.

I did see the plea to blindly accept this stimulus package by calling my Senators Collins and Snowe again.  It was produced by America United.  A somewhat left group that I assume gets all its funding from goverment grants.  They must be wrapped up in getting a good share of this money, now that would be a surprise.  The Republican Senators on the floor are saying calls to their office are 9 to 1 against the bill and Democrats are not saying, I suspect that means they are getting a fair percentage, maybe not as many as the Republicans but certainly at least the 54% of the population that is against this bill.  I have no idea what information they are using to make such a decision, the MSM is barely covering it.

There is little to report, more of the same.  Republicans hating the package but adding amendments.  It may all make sense but I am not sure, if they get enough amendments that the Democrats don't like maybe the bill will be scrapped and a good one formulated.  I hate this bill but if it does pass, I would like to see this or that included.  It is no wonder the government has grown beyond its usfulness.  So much for Thomas Paine "Government that governs least governs best."  It is remember because of Thomas Jeffersons popularity as his but his was similar but slightly different "That government is best which governs the least, because its people discipline themselves".  Certianly our congress is the least disciplined since Jefferson's days.

Susan Collins and Senator Nelson are proposing a 200 billion dollar cut to the original package, too small in my opinion and Cspan is reporting that Collins, they didn't mention Nelson will be meeting with the President today to discuss it, I suspect he will listen intently and completely ignore what was said.  If she is to make any progress it has to be with the Senate but I am glad to see she will probably vote nay on this package.  The vote will be tight but there is a good chance it will be defeated.  But if not it will surely be along party lines and that will not help the Democrats in the 2010 mid terms when this package does absolutely nothing to bring the economy along.  For every government job created there surely will be 2 jobs lost in the private sector, hardest hit will be small business.  By 2010 we surely would have double digit unemployment, not seen since the Carter years.

I will probably report back tomorrow after they vote on the days amendments at 5:30 EST.

I saw it happen

Before my eyes yesterday, I saw the Porkulus package top 900 Billion.  I have written to each of my Representatives because it will be going back to the house, Michael Michaud voted for the package, I told him how disappointed I was that he had done that.  I did actually hear back from Susan Collins and she claims to be working with Senator Nelson (D) on an alternative bill that is more aimed at creating jobs not creating more government programs.  This bill adds 34 new programs and programs don't go away, no such thing as a temporary program.  Some of  these things may be neccessary but let's be fair and put them in front of the appropriations committee  and let them be compared to other worthy causes.  This process typically takes months not a few days.

I purposely watched some morning so called news programs that are of course more entertainment than news just to see how they covered this, they don't seem to care to cover the most important news story of the day.  However I was distressed to see and add flash up saying "contact Susan Collin and Olympia Snowe and tell them to vote yes on the Stimulus package".  It caught me off guard I don't think it said who was funding the add.  If I see it again I will freeze frame and see if I can find any fine print.  I find this outragouse, not merits, no explanation of why it is a good idea just a message to blindly support this piece of crap.

The time of the Senate session today hasn't been anounced yet, but I will try to see as much as possible.  I can't see how this can be passed, but if it does I pledge to spend every waking moment between now and 2010 to get our representation changed and then to get the office of President changed.  I must say, I am very pleasantly surprised that there are some good conservative republicans in the Senate and in the House.  I would like to learn more about Senator Kyl, I don't remember which state he was from, I think Kentucky but not sure, looked like Presential material to me.  Conservative, articulate and that magic Charisma that is needed to get elected now a days.

I will post later today after I burn myself out watching all this unfold.

A quick update

I am a little burnt from watching the Senate hearing on S.1.  I am both encouraged and disappointed.  But I am getting a sense that this bill is almost to the point of being dead as it is written.  I saw 18 billion get added in an amendment and 244 million dropped.  At that rate this package would be 3 trillion before long.  The 18 billion was 13 billion additional for highways and 5 billion for water treatment.  I am encouraged by the passion conservative arguments presented and even my two Senators seem to vote the right way.  I will see how much of this I can get through tomorrow, right now I need to rest.

You can sign a petition against this package at click here to sign petition.

Obama makes the world less safe every day

We have all been wrapped up and rightfully so in the so called stimulus package.  In the mean time Obama is rushing toward a Carter/Clinton type hide your head in the sand approach to the world and terrorist that want us all dead.  He is proposing a 10% decrease in military spending and unlike the Porkulus package, there won't be Democrats racing to add to it, hopefully at least a few Republicans will.  I want every Republican to say, I fought this all the way, of course that isn't going to happen.  If they want to regain the Congress in or at least make it respectable, they have to stand up for the country, when the Administration cares more about the rights of terrorist than you and I.  We are just a source of revenue to him, nothing more.  George Bush spent every bit of political capital on keeping the country strong, we are not going to see that again for at least another 4 years.  Obama has to remember his oath of office, he is charged with keeping the country safe from enemies both foreign and domestic.  How are you going to do that big guy.  Get ready with all your emergency gear, there is no doubt that we will be attacked again on Obama's watch, probably while he is meeting with Ahmadinejad or should I say kissing his rear.

Hannity last night had McCain and another Senator on.  McCain had the most sane approach to the economic crisis I have heard, he simply says, we should only include items that create jobs and leave all the Pork for another day.  Boy did we elect the wrong man to lead our country.  The other Senator and I appoligize to him because I don't remember his name said that Obama had to deal with a run away congress and had no chance to reign them in.  In other words we are screwed.  Our only hope is that every Republican and a few Democrats don't go along with this.  It won't stop it but when it fails it will have big time results in the mid terms.  Debate is scheduled for 10:00 AM for S.1, will try to see as much as I can and keep score.  I want to see a few Democrats get up and oppose the bill, something I didn't see in the House even though 11 of them did the right thing.

As usual Dr. Sowell is right on, check out his article on townhall.com

Stay tuned.

Here we go again

I am starting to wonder if there is anyone in the administration that actually pays taxes.  Tom Dashell is the latest slime that decided that he is better than the rest of us and ignores his tax burden.  Where is the outrage, why is the MSM just ignoring all of this, this is just unbelievable to me.  I can't see how they won't confirm him, after confirming the Treasury Secretary, the person ultimately respondsible for all of us paying our taxes.  It is no wonder they want to spend tax payer dollars in an irresponsible way, they don't pay any.

The latest thing from the White house is that FDR's boondoggles didn't work because they didn't spend enough, and of course Obama isn't going to make that mistake.  I don't understand why people don't see this for what it is, power grabbing.  He wants to control every aspect of your life, because he is obviously smarter than the rest of us.  It could be argued that George Bush wasn't a great communicator but Obama one on one has more Ahs they Carolyn Kennedy had "you knows", GW was actually quite good when interviewed.  Take Obama off his talking points and he just doesn't appear very smart.  Of course they are backing off from Social Security as a great thing that FDR did.  In my opinion SS was one of the few things FDR did right.  It did include more and even unemployment insurance at first.  The only thing wrong with SS is that in the 60's to pay for the Great Society Johnson decided it was a shame to leave all that money there collecting interest when he could use it and make it look like things cost less than they actually did.  Even today it is not a pay as you go, it has been made a pay as you go because the government takes your money after all payments and calls it surplus and takes it.  I have a hard time understanding why help for people that actually paid into this for 40 to 50 years are considered a drain on society and those that never worked a day in their life and are a drain on society are catered to with increases.  This is bafling.

We will have to see what happens with HR-1 as it makes it ways through the Senate.  I bounce back and forth on how I think the Republicans should act.  There is no way that any real tax relief in the form of Capital Gains reduction is going to happen, which would be the prime way to get the economy moving.  In this the Obama adminstration and FDR are much a like and for the same reason we are about to go deep into a depression that will last until we change our thinking of business.  Business is our friend not our enemy.  If you give money to people that don't have any and no future, how is that going to stimulate the economy?  A smart general manager I worked for  use to say, if you took all the money and you split up between all the people taking from the rich and giving to the poor that in a very short time it would be back in the hands of the people that had it in the first place.  Of course that is providing you don't change to a socialistic society, we are talking a free market economy.

This probably has gone un noticed but Obama asked that the switch to digital TV be delayed because people were not ready and coupons were not available.  BTW the Porkulus package includes 600 million for coupons, originally it was only $150 million.  By the time the money is available people won't needed them, so I guess they will just have to find another place to spend that money.    I have a very big interest in this, I don't pay for tv.  The Congress lead by the Republicans turned down the bill to extend the date.  They didn't want the people that were waiting for those frequencies to be inconvinienced, I find it very inconvinient.  The Congress doesn't have a clue about this and the local stations switched to UHF because available frequencies, some of which won't be avaiable until the summer.  You think those smart law makers would have realized this.  This means when they switch over, I will get exactly one station, PBS.  Even if I can talk a friend into installing a UHF antennae(at great expense) on my rotor, they are not going to do it on an icey roof.  Dont' believe the hype on how easy this conversion will be.  That only gets me TV, if I want to record a show, that is a whole different deal that I am still trying to figure out.  Replay TV will do it, but it isn't documented anywhere, I have been working of this for several months, we shall see what happens Febuary 17.   Thanks all you jerks in Congress.

There will be more to write about as things heat up in the Senate.

Things could be looking up

Michael Steel has been elected chairman of the RNC.  This is a good thing despite the backlash of negative misinformation, such as he didn't pass the bar, you don't got to work for a law firm unless you pass the bar and other lies that simple research would discover.  Steel is a conservative, or at least more conservative than the leadership and direction of the party has been for a few years.  Let us offer an alternative, not a Democrat and a Rino running for office, no wonder people take the real deal and not a knock off.  My hope is this really sets a new direction.

I was inspired last night on Hannities radio show(we get a late rebroadcast).  Mitch McConnell(Senate Minority Leader) was on and had some encouraging words to say.  He is confident that they will be able salvage a better bill from this piece of crap.  Interesting enough, he thinks at the moment they don't have enough Democratic votes to pass the bill.  You may ask your self, why is this, when Obama walks on water.  First of all this plan apparently doesn't even resemble the original bill and of course was Porked up to the hilt by the Democratic House Members.    If it truely was some money for infrastructure and a good tax relief plan to help business it would pass handly.  What make the Dems so shaky, support for the bill as people understand it only has low 40's approval rating according to a Fox News poll.  I am sure they have been inindated with calls and emails, as I did myself.  The more people learn the less support it will get.  I briefly saw some news this morning where consumers are really holding on to their money, which made me think, why would they want the government to spend their money when they don't want to spend it themself.  The answer seems pretty obvious.

Mitch McConnell seemed very level headed and confident.  I like his stimulus package.  400 billion for guarantee loans for the housing crises and about the same for tax relief for business.  The first 400 billion or most of it has already been allocated and not spent from the first garbage bill, so it would actually cost very little.    I also like his definition.  A stimulus package should be timely and temporary.  All the Pork presently in this bill won't be temorary, try to get rid of something.

Lean on your repesentative both in the House and the Senate.  Don't forget the final Senate version will still need approval from the House.

I thought Friday was going to be a slow news day, but it was quite interesting.

On to the Senate

At this point I have to ask myself, what do I want.  Do I want what is best for the country or just see these people out of office.  Certainly this so called economic recovery package is not what we want but is there a way to salvage just enough to make it somewhat good for the country.  We have all talked about the Pork and the waste and the left agenda and it is all 100% true but if we could some how get some capital gains tax relief and some relief for business out of this, it will hasten the recovery, of course it will also make it harder to make gains in the mid terms.  The House Republicans made a bold statement and give credit to the 11 Democrats as well.

We may take a page from George Bushes play books.  Think what you will of George Bush, he was not a conservative but he wasn't a spending fool as the Congress made him look.  First and for most on his mind was keeping the country safe, it is constitutional and living up to his oath of office.  He did this by playing the political game, he only wanted a small amount of money but had to satisfy over 600 Congress people that wanted it all.  I saw many hearings and the Democrats were always complaining that one of their pet projects was being held up but at the same time Bush couldn't get his military budget signed.  Round and round it went and poof, the biggest deficits we have every seen.

Just maybe the Senate minority leader can push Obama's hand on this bipartisan crap.  Cut a deal that gets rid much of the Pork and add some real tax relief for businesses and families.    What does Obama get, he can say he is the great unify and be believable and the country will get at least a little relief and a whole lot of Pork.  But the Senate Minority leader has to reign in the Rinos like my two Senators Snow and Collins, because it will be an all or nothing thing.

Beyond that it is back to no yes votes from Republicans and maybe even a few democrats, Joe Lieberman where are you.

Stay tuned, it is going to be quite a ride.  The next 4 years can either be hell or just expensive, either way it is going to bankrupt us but I hope we at least keep the country safe while we fill our wheel barrels full of money to buy a loaf of bread.
